History: Room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel on Lexington Avenue has a notorious history of being rather haunted. Every occupant has not lasted a single hour in there before they were found dead. For jaded supernatural author Mike Enslin, it sounds like easy pickings for his next work. But he should have listened to the warnings. The room knows what ticks him off, what could end his life, and how to destroy his mind with his inner demons...
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: After Mike survives the hour, it is revealed that he will relive the hour again and again until he dies. In a fury, he has the whole room set on fire and blown up, yet survives that too. Needless to say, 1408's reign of terror is over.
Powers/Abilities: Complete omnipotence, with things such as the ghosts of old victims and masterful illusions.
Weakness: The room isn't exactly made of steel here.
Scariness Factor: 4-You've only yourself to blame for coming in here, but if you do, you're pretty much screwed. This room, heavily implied to be sentient, can get into your mind, play on your worst insecurities, and send you on a ride to madness and death. Suddenly that house on Amityville isn't looking too pricey...
Trivia: -There are three different endings to this film. The theatrical ending, an alternate ending, and a director's cut ending. The last two end with Mike dying. A constant throughout is the room getting set on fire. The book's ending had him immolate himself, with him surviving yet with no one believing his experience.
-This film was based on a 1999 short story by Stephen King. It actually started out as a rough draft for a non-fiction novel of his before he became intrigued with what he already had.
